New Scout Information

Welcome to Scouting with Pack
354!!! The information found on this sheet will help you get started in
Scouting.
The Scout rank you work towards is determined by your grade in school.
- 1st grade - Tiger Cubs
- 2nd grade - Wolf Scout
- 3rd grade - Bear Scout
- 4th grade - Webelos Scout (1st year)
- 5th grade - Webelos Scout (2nd year)
- 6th grade - 18 years old - Boy Scouts
Den Meetings
- Are on a day and time determined by the den. During Den Meetings the
scouts work on scout advancement, build art & craft projects, & have game
time. Tiger Parents are required to attend den meetings.
Pack Meetings - Are held once each month and work around a theme. All
parents, brothers, & sisters are invited to Pack Meeting. Pack Meetings are
typically on Monday nights at Norwood Elementary School.
Meetings start at 7:00 and end at 9:00. Check the Calendar for
additional information.
Outings & Projects - Some of our annual events include; Camping, Pinewood
Derby, Blue & Gold Banquet, a Long Island Ducks baseball game, Races at
Riverhead Raceway and the occasional pizza party. We also have a tradition
of community service in our neighborhood.
Our Calendar will have information on these & other activities.
Books - Are the MOST IMPORTANT item to have right away. The books
help your son advance in rank. Pick up the appropriate book as soon as
possible and go through it with your son. There is a lot of fun to be
found. The reading levels match the grade of the scout but tiger cubs may
need some help.
Uniforms
- Scouts must have a uniform shirt. It is the way we show off our Scouting
advancements and Ranks. The local Scout supply stores should have everything you to get
started. The shirts are heavy so a short sleeved shirt may be your best
bet. When you buy the shirt, you will also need the white on red numbers
"354" and a council patch. We are in the
Benjamin Tallmadge District.
These go on
the left sleeve. For the right sleeve. you will need U.S. flag (already on
the shirt) and den
numeral. Finally, the neckerchief and slide, these are by rank. Orange for
Tigers, yellow for Wolves, blue for Bears, & plaid for WeBeLoS. If you are
not sure what goes where see your scout book.
Fees - The cost to enroll your Scout each year is currently $30.00.
This fee is Due early December. The fee will adjust depending when in the
year you join. These fees go to Council and cover registration, Insurance,
Boys Life Magazine. We do
fundraisers and everyone is expected to participate (see Fundraising page).
Leaders - We are always looking for parents who would like to help
Pack 354. Please talk to any of the Leaders if you can help, this may
include becoming a leader, running an event or committee, or just helping
out at Pack Nights.
QUESTIONS ? - Contact the Cubmaster, talk to your Den Leader, or
send us an
e-mail.
